21/10/2014· The reason why is due to the swap from a 97+ engine into an older Jeep. I put a 98 engine in my 96 as well. The 98 head does not have a temperature sensor location for the dash switch/gauge. I drilled a hole in the thermostat housing and tapped it to put the sender in. What you are seeing is about the same thing but without tapping a new hole.
Thermostat Installation. Remove the upper radiator hose and the end of the heater hose that connects to the thermostat housing. Unplug the temperature sensor. Remove the 2 bolts on the housing. The thermostat is located within the housing and will come out easily with the housing removed.

Reconnect the heater core hose and the radiator hose, and clamp them down. 6. Allow RTV to dry for the recommended time.

4/7/2012· The factory specified 195 degree thermostat is indeed the right one to use for our TJ engines. Running a 165 or 180 degree thermostat won''t/can''t magically force an engine to run cooler on a hot day, especially since it was designed to run at 210 degrees and no matter what temp thermostat you might want to run, all would be wide open after 195 degrees anyway.
