Jan 14, 2011· So are both coolant temp sensor and thermostat going bad or are they essentially the same part? And could these parts have an effect on gas mileage, I''ve seen a 23 mpg decrease. That could also be due to my old spark plugs though. Gotta get that replaced this weekend. thanks in advance
Apr 29, 2007· The coolant temperature sensor contributes to how rich or lean the PCM adjusts the air/fuel ratio based on measured engine temperature. If this sensor is out of specification, it could be causing the PCM to make the ratio quite rich. The sensor is …
Sep 22, 2007· Coolant doesn''t have anything to do with gas mileage, but everytime i''ve seen an o2 sensor effect mileage the check engine light was on. There are lots of factors in gas mileage, ignition parts, carbon build up on the valves, and various other things.
Nov 07, 2021· Poor fuel economy: One of the most common signs of a bad coolant temp sensor is poor fuel economy. A bad coolant temp sensor will send a false reading to the car computer and disrupt accurate gas and timing calculations. Commonly, a failed temp sensor might permanently send a cold signal to the computer, making it think the vehicle is always ...

Turbo cars have WIDELY varying mileages that are HIGHLY dependant on your right foot. Given you are 19, it''s not something you should rule out.
Sep 29, 2013· Hello everyone, I have a 1997 2500 dodge ram, engine. resently my gas mileage has dropped from 15 mpg to around 10 mpg, a local machanic told me it could be the ECT sensor. I decided to change out the sensor just to see if he''s right but I''m having problems locating it. The one sensor I...
Your Volkswagen has a coolant temperature sensor. This is also commonly referred to as the ECT sensor, which is Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Even though it doesn’t sound like a very important part of your VW system, the ECT sensor actually has an effect on the fuel delivery, engine performance, and even the ignition timing.

It is designed to help the engine run at the maximum efficiency, scoring the right mix of horsepower, emissions, and gas mileage. Some vehicles have both a coolant temperature sensor and a temperature sending unit, which works similarly to a sensor but gives the reading to the gauge on the dash instead of to a computer.
Apr 21, 2015· If the ECM is throwing a temperature code, P0128 in Global OBD II, as in Coolant below regulating temperature, its the thermostat. Varify it with a scan tool by watching the ECT values. If an ECT goes stupid, it will send 4 F or lower to the ECM even though the temperature is much higher. I have seen H4 ECTs show 40 F and 325 F.
Jun 29, 2018· You’re getting poor gas mileage: Until the vehicle is warmed up, the car’s computer relies on information from the coolant temperature sensor for fuel control. Once the car is warm, it switches to relying on the oxygen sensors for a more precise reading.
Jul 06, 2020· Symptoms of Coolant Temperature Sensor Failure. A bad engine coolant temperature sensor can produce a lot of symptoms. When the sensor fails, your engine will no longer be as efficient. Jul 24, 2010· So now I''m thinking maybe the coolant temp sensor could be bad... Maybe it''s randomly going into enrichment mode which brings me to my second issue, MPG. I do drive pretty hard, but I only get like 160200 highway miles per tank. The poor MPG''s is another reason why I think the sensor could be messing with me.
Apr 13, 2011· I want to go ahead and replace the Coolant Temp Sensor on my 91 v6 3vz due to poor gas mileage. There are 3 sensors....two with two pins, and one with one pin. I''m pretty sure the sensor with one pin goes to the temp gauge. The other two, one being black and had a larger diameter thread, and the other is grey. Resistance measured on the black = 80.
Jun 07, 2011· Last time it popped up I scanned the codes before clearing them and I also had the P1290 code. Shortly before that, highway fuel mileage dropped to 1718 MPG. P1290 is cylinder head temp sensor low input. The coolant temp gauge on the dash stays right in the middle, but I find that pointless in diagnosis.
Finally, the cooling system is complete with the coolant itself. It is typically a mixture of water and ethylene alcohol. My 2003 Toyota Avalon gets vastly different highway gas mileage depending on the temperature. Literally: at subzero temperatures, it gets about 22. On a warm day, it can get 29. Same road, same speed, same driver… I know its not gas formula, because I have seen the value go up morning versus afternoon on the same day. EH???
May 03, 2012· Even after replacing the Air Inlet temp sensor, I got coolant temp readings in the 160190 range (which followed the temperature gauge with the fan coming on and off) and the Start Temp was fixed at 56 degrees F. ... Intake air temperature sensor/yet another gas mileage thread. Thanks, I''ll check into that. Magtec, I used the NGK copper plugs ...
